Nina
Rivet (President of F.A.C.T.)
Nina Rivet was born in New
Westminster, B.C. on March 26, 1963. I spent my life growing up in the
lower mainland. After graduating from high school, I settled down and raised
my family. Nina is the youngest of 11 children, 10 girls and 1 boy.
I was first introduced to
politics at a young age in October 1977 when my brother was shot and killed,
but did not understand the systems consequence at the time. But more recently
introduced to the justice system. On November 13, 2000, my sister Irene
was run down and killed by street racers in Vancouver B.C. As a result
I became deeply involved in seeing that the system we have in place be
enforced. Along the way I started a non-profit group named Victims against
Dangerous Driver (V.A.D.D). Prior to entering into politics, I devoted
much of my time increasing public awareness on our failing criminal system
and helping victims to understand how the courts work and how they can
fail you. While doing this I spent much time working with Chuck Cadman
and supporting his bills put before the House of Commons. As well as writing
thank you letters and disappointing letters to those who did vote on his
street racing bills.
I was first interested in
fighting my provincial issues as Chuck Cadman was fighting for victims
on the federal issues. Then upon Chuck’s death I was encouraged by family,
friends, other victims and Surrey North residents to run in the federal
election to carry on with Chuck's street racing bill as he wrote it, with
many other important issues,. But mostly to be an independent voice for
the people and victims of Canada. |
