Kyle Gionco
Kyle was shot and killed in his own home in 2004. His father
Gerry will be the first to tell you that he knew his son had
become involved with the wrong crowd, but his son did not
deserve to die in this manner. Gerry has struggled with the
daunting task of dealing with those who feel that because
of Kyle’s association with a bad group of kids, that
he himself must be involved in this kind of behavior. This
in fact is the furthest thing from the truth. Gerry worked
for many many years as a Corrections Officer in BC, and took
great pride in his job. It wasn’t until after his son’s
death that he left his job to pursue other ventures in hopes
of creating change. Gerry founded the Kyle Dempsey Gionco
Foundation in memory of his son, to reach under-privileged
youths through martial arts, where they can overcome violence
and crime, through discipline and higher self-esteem.
