Jomar Lanot
The
day began differently for Jenna Lanot the morning of November
28, 2003. Jenna a single mother, working to support her sons
Garnet & Jomar stood in her kitchen preparing sandwiches
for Jomar to take to school with him that day. This was something
Jenna usually wasn’t able to do as most days she would
already have left for work. This was just one of the things
that would later prove to be ominous, but for now she was
enjoying spending the time with Jomar before he left for school.
It was a cold wet day and Jenna decided to give
Jomar a ride to school that morning, and would then pick him
up after school. Jomar worked part time at McDonalds, and
had asked his mother if she would take him to pick up his
pay cheque after school. Jenna could hear how excited Jomar
was to receive his pay cheque, and wanted to go with him to
get it.
When they arrived at McDonalds Jomar ran inside
while Jenna waited patiently for Jomar’s return. It
seemed to be taking him awhile, and Jenna began to get concerned.
It was not much longer before Jomar ran back to their vehicle
and told his mother that they could not find his pay cheque.
Jenna recalls Jomar looking quite sad about not being able
to get his pay cheque, but he decided he would return another
time to get it.
As they drove back to their home Jomar suggested
that he cook dinner for his family that evening. Jomar loved
to cook, and took every opportunity he could to help out around
the house. He was an amazing young man, with a smile that
lit up a room. He loved to sing and play the guitar, he dreamed
of one day being a huge star. At just 17 Jomar had aspirations
and dreams, and he would have met all of them we are certain.
Jomar had just come to Canada from the Philippines a year
earlier, and loved everything about his new found country,
especially the snow.
