Ian Bush
Ian was fatally shot in October 2005 by
a rookie RCMP officer. His case is still before the courts.
Andrea Patrick says "My sister (Renee)
and I have a new life mission. Out of this, our family would
like to see some changes made to RCMP training, requirements
to become a police officer and the investigation process.
An RCMP officer killed my brother and another RCMP officer
is investigating him. We'd like to change that, too. We'd
like to see an independant investigation team like they have
in Ontario."
In Ontario, a Special Investigations Unit is
a civilian law enforcement agency that looks into all serious
injury or death of civilians by police. Criminal charges can
be laid by this unit, which uses another special division
of the Ministry of the Attorney General to prosecute. "Once
we get some answers and a little closure with the Ian part
of this, then we will get to that," says Andrea.
