Corey Bruinsma/Anderson
June 16/79-August 13-06
Corey was one of the finest young men you would
ever want to know. He had one of the most gentle souls, always
the peace maker.
He was only 27 when he was so violently taken
from us.
Corey had many friends from all walks of life, you
were his friend for who you where not by what you had.
He was known for his smile and always being
the happy guy! He never caused his mom any trouble growing
up, never involved with the police or violence of any kind.
He received a promotion at the sawmill where
he worked the day before he was killed.
It was said he was a good listener.
Corey was fatally stabbed at a backyard get
together for some friends. His attacker was ejected from the
party earlier after a fight caused by his girlfriend and he
later returned undetected and hid in some bushes. Corey went
to the bushes to relieve himself and was stabbed 3 times where
he stumbled back to die in the arms of friends. Sadly, it
was because in the dark he looked a lot like the guy who had
earlier ejected this loser from the party that he was killed.
Corey's funeral was huge in our small town.
People shared a lot of great things about him. His friends
donated money for a memorial concrete picnic table and also
did the concrete foundation that it sits on. We have put in
a memorial garden and a tree beside it in our town. Unfortunately,
the jury didn't see it as first degree murder and his attacker
only got manslaughter and he was sentenced to 12 yrs but we
all know he won't serve even close to that. He is eligible
for day parole in 2009 and full parole in 2010.
The real kicker is this guy had stabbed someone
before and shot two other people and together, only got 4
years. His parole officer said when released that he was likely
to reoffend only this time he murdered someone.
Our family would really like to see a 3 strikes
law or mandatory sentences for criminals who use weapons.
Corey's life was too short and we miss
him so much!
