Brooke Ivie
Clapson
NOVEMBER 28, 1979-SEPTEMBER 29, 2000
On September 29, 2000 my beautiful, 20 year
old daughter Brooke Ivie Clapson was brutally stabbed to death
in Rocky Mountain House by her abusive ex-boyfriend.
That day we became victims of violent crime
and our world stopped making sense. My life became every parent’s
worst nightmare and I can’t wake up to find it’s
not true.
Her killer was a career criminal at 23 years
of age at the time of Brooke’s death. With a long list
of juvenile and adult offences ranging from break & enter,
fraud and assault (on his own Mother & another ex-girlfriend).
Most notably he was unlawfully at large at the
time of Brooke’s death, out on bail once again &
a warrant was issued for a failure to appear.
Is it safe to assume that her killer is the
direct result of our all too lenient Young Offenders Act &
our Criminal Justice system as a whole? It continues in a
seemingly never ending spiral that my family is being sucked
into, including the FACT that he was free to call our home
from custody the day of Brooke’s murder to use one of
his usual tactics of harassment & control he utilized
many times while Brooke was alive. So his violation of our
family continues even after he has taken Brooke from us.
Their on again off again violent relationship
lasted 2 years & during that time Brooke was a constant
victim of verbal, mental & physical abuse including stalking
of her, myself & my family. She never reached out for
help & I was unaware for the most part the extent of the
abuse as she hid it from me & he was always contrite &
remorseful.
She had decided to finally end the relationship
in March of 2000, when he pulled her to the ground, ripped
out chunks of her hair, kicked her in the face & back
leaving several large bruises. He was attempting to get her
back to the apartment where they were staying when she broke
free & fled to a friend’s apartment to safety ...
this time.
