Our Mission: (click here for complete Mission Statement)
- To provide a voice for those affected by a violent crime, or the loss of a loved one to a criminal act
- To create change in the Criminal Justice System
- To provide guidance and direction pertaining to court procedures
- To educate the community and victims about their rights
Nina Rivet (President) and Sandie Martins-Toner (Executive Director) have been overwhelmed with supportive emails, and phone calls since the original story aired on Global news. This is an organization of families who have lost loved ones tragically, or for those who have survived a violent crime. We are tired of the criminals getting the last laugh when it comes to our justice system. Not only have they been victimized when their loved ones were murdered, but they have been victimized once again by our slack justice system.
The criminals know all the loop holes in the system as they seem to be better informed about their rights than the victims are. With all the cut backs to Victim Services, they found themselves lost and scrambling for answers that they never seem to get, half the time they were not even informed in regards to bail hearings, or any other court dates they were to attend. They are so tired of watching the news and hearing of other families’ losses due to all the crime that plagues our communities.
This is why Nina and Sandie, and many other high profile families, have banded together in hopes of changing the way the justice system functions. It is the foundation of the legal system that must be changed. F.A.C.T. is prepared to challenge Canada’s laws all the way to Supreme Court. F.A.C.T.
wants to be the advocates for those who need assistance during their time of need, whether that is emotional support, advice or media liaisons.
We are asking for all the support we can get, so please feel free to contact us anytime.
Thank you again for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Sandra Martins-Toner
Executive Director for F.A.C.T.
